Tri update news

Triathlon in Vanuatu is in a bit of a lull right now and there are no plans to conduct normal road bike triathlons in the near future. The state of the roads in Port Vila preclude road bike type events and any cycling is limited to mountain bikes. We understand there are plans to upgrade Port Vila roads in the next couple of years. Meanwhile we have a newly surfaced ring road around the Island of Efate which is very suitable for road bikes once you are out of town.

In the meantime there are many sporting events happening. There is an annual road running series which includes the VTA's traditional AFA Fun Run (see below in Latest) sponsored by AFA Insurance which is held mid July and the TVL half marathon at the end of July. The Round Island Relay now sponsored by Wilco Hardware is a great 10 person team event held also near the end of July (Independence celebrations). There is the annual Vanuatu Ocean Swim (Google it for dates), and the ever popular endurance team run "La Piste Bleue" organised and sponsored by Unelco held again at the end of August. Also Hash House Harriers on a Monday evening at 5.15pm see http://hhh.longvanuatu.com and Sunday morning mountain biking 6.30am from USP roundabout are quite strong!

Another event is the Vanuatu Adventure Race, see http://www.racevanuatu.com/ for details,
also a jet ski race from Port Vila to Ratua Island.

There are some plans to have regular triathlon training sessions at the Beach Bar (formerly Nippers) in Mele Bay by the Hideaway landing at some stage. The Beach Bar Facebook page will have info as it comes to hand. The Beach Bar has great possibilities for MTB triathlons being on the beach at Mele Bay with a large car park alongside.

Latest

Again there will be the popular AFA Fun Run held
9 July. This event starts in Mele Maat near the Cascades and Klems Hill and covers 10km of flat running into town by the Anchor Inn.

Register at the AFA Office by 8 July for just 200vt. On Saturday the 9th assemble Anchor Inn car Park at 6.45am to collect free T-shirt and race number. Buses provided for 8.00am start.

Our premier event has been the TUSKER Triathlon du Paradis which normally takes place on a Sunday in September. We hope to be able to resurrect this event in the future.
